The St Marlyebone Camp of William Ellis School

Residential Fieldwork Centre

"THE MILL" is William Ellis School's Residential Fieldwork Centre in the beautiful Surrey countryside. The Mill has had a busy year. Year 7 Camp was a great success at the end of June, beginning of July.

Modernisation

For those who know the Mill, you will be pleased to hear that the outside portable toilet block has been dismantled (at last) and the boys' toilet block has been demolished to make way for a new three storey Shower and Toilet block, which will include disabled facilities.

The building work on the first and second floors has now been completed with two new shower and toilet blocks.

Although fundraising continues in order to improve the facilities at the Mill, thanks to generous donations phase two of the extension works (the fitting out of the ground floor of the new extension)is nearing completion. The drying room and new toilet facilities are now in use and the disabled facilities await a few final fixtures and fittings. The majority of the work has been carried out by volunteers and we are hoping all the new facilities will be in use by the end of 2011. Completion of phase two means the Mill will be able to provide much needed disabled toilet/shower facilities, further toilet facilities to enable us to cater for very large camping groups, and a drying room which will provide essential facilities to cope with some of the young visitors with special needs. In addition to the work nearing completion on ground floor steady progress has been made with the staff bathroom, which will double as an additional disabled facility on the first floor. The floor was laid at the beginning of November in preparation for the fitting of internal fixtures.

What we still need:

Towards the end of the summer a number of bunk beds were replaced; however funds are still needed to replace some bunk beds and mattresses. We are also trying to raise funds for flooring in the games room and classroom.

The breakdown is as follows:

Bunk Beds - 4 @ £180.00 each

Mattresses - 26 @ £72.00 each

Games Room Flooring - £2,321.00

Classroom Flooring - £1,600.00
